The New York Times http://travel2.nytimes.com/2004/12/17/travel/escapes/17HOUR.html ran an article on doing Albuquerque in 36 hours. As a native Nuevo Mejicano, I'm a Barele~no, may I suggest that if you are in 'Burque and happen to be in La Plaza Vieja [Old Town] go to Garcia's which sits on Central. Garcia's has a number of locations, but, the one adjoining La Plaza Vieja really serves the best food. While you are sitting and waiting for the excellent food ask yourself the following question "Why is there an Old Town?" The answer is a simple one. Los Americanos simply didn't want to live around the "natives" so using good old fashioned US apartheid they segregated themselves from the locals. So when you are in ‘Burque enjoy the sites, cheap prices thanks to illegal immigrant labor and above all look around. You’ll be able to spy the remnants of that sordid past and how that continues to have an impact on the locals today.
